Day 3 - Olympia - Tokeland

A few more things to buy - Wheatless Pancake Mix - and after an early lunch we are finally off to the coast and Tokeland!

Wow. Like seeing the Rockies, when you are confronted with the sheer immensity of the Pacific Ocean it impresses you - the near deafening sound of the waves and steady wind. Every plant at the shores edge bends in respect. We stopped for half and hour when we encountered the first beach and then on to Tokeland.
Tokeland was the site of the Norton Ocean Cabin and we spent many family summer holidays here. It all floods back, familiar sites, roads and cottages. We remember to drive 25 MPH thru the Shoalwater Bay Indian Reservation - the sting of a $75 fine 20 years ago still smarting.

We decide to stay in the old Tokeland Hotel - good rates, creaky old place with lots of history a "Nancy Drew" special feel to the place.









We bicycled around and found the old Norton cabin. Yikes, what a junk heap. The new owners who own most of the other cabins on the property have turned it into a beach combers junk yard. No regrets about selling the property now.





The dock looks pretty much the same, but much less activity than we remember.








We watch as the local "Nelson" Cannery boat unloads a boatful of crab.





Later we find a rustic roadside restaurant and sample the clam chowder - very good, but not as good as Jack's was!
Then back to the hotel as the sun sets - all we need is a good storm - apparently a ghost lives in the attic - I try not to think of that as I sneak down the hall to the bathroom at 3 AM...
